Ukraine marks Independence Day today

Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/- Ukraine marks National Day today. In 1991, it adopted Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union.
Ukraine has a 603,700 - square kilometers area, and population – over 52 million residents.
The gross domestic product represents 177.4 billion dollars, and per capita – 3,900 dollars.
Ukraine exports iron ores, oil, coal, gas, agricultural machines, wheat and sugar. It imports crude oil, non-ferrous metals, chemical products, electric equipment and consumer goods. It has foreign trade with Russia, Germany, Belarus, China, Turkmenistan and other countries.
The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Ukraine were set on 10 March 1992. Moldovan Ambassador to Ukraine is Ruslan Bolbocean (since December 2015) and Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova – Ivan Gnatishin (since September 2015).
The Moldovan-Ukrainian trade was estimated at 307.3 million dollars in January-September 2015, down by 38.6 per cent against the same period of 2014 (500.8 million dollars).
Moldova’s exports to the Ukrainian market registered 31.1 million dollars in the first nine months of 2015, decreasing by 62.3 per cent, and import from Ukraine – 276.2 million dollars, down by 34 per cent against the same period of 2014.
In January-April 2016, Moldova exported to Ukraine goods worth 15 million 822 thousand dollars. In the same period, the country imported goods amounting to 106 million 251 thousand dollars.
