Moldovan PM conveys condolences to Italian people

Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today conveyed condolences to authorities and people of Italy on this morning earthquake, which took human lives and significant damages, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The premier conveyed compassion to the grieving families and relatives of those suffering, noting that Moldova was with Italy in the difficult moments. “We are closer to the Italian people more so as it is a tragedy for us, knowing the number of citizens staying in Italy”, he said.

At the same time, the premier asked the Foreign Ministry to keep in touch with the Italian authorities and to provide support for Moldovans, including via a special hot line. “My request is to further manage this situation and to be informed personally about the set evolutions,” Filip said.

According to the information unveiled by the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, there are no Moldovans among victims. So far, there were no requests on consular assistance, at the same time, over 20 calls were registered from citizens on information about relatives staying in the affected region. The authorities verify the information and are in touch with the Italian administration in order to provide help and support for citizens who will need it. Under official data, about 15,500 citizens of Moldova are staying in the region hit by the quake.

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake was registered in central Italy today in the morning, which left at least 63 dead and dozens of injured.
