Andrei Turcanu, MP of the first parliament, PhD in philology, poet, publicist, literary critic and historian
MOLDPRES: After the proclamation of Independence, Moldova could follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (most recently, the Eurasian Union). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Turcanu: Unfortunately, 25 years of independence are a quarter of century of endless opportunities failure, which history offered us during the years, since 1991, and finally, pressing sense of total failure.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Turcanu: I am sure that the Moldova project failed and that our single political option is unification with Romania. These are meanings “achievements” of independence proclamation and political steps due to be made urgently.
