Businessman Platon extradited to Moldova

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/- Businessman Veaceslav Platon arrested by authorities from Ukraine at a request of Moldovan prosecutors was extradited to Moldova on 29 August.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), the prosecutors brought to the attention his accusation, immediately after his surrender to authorities from Chisinau. “Today, Chisinau-based Buiucani court is going to rule on prosecutors’ request to extend for 30 days the arrest warrant on Platon,” the PG said.
Platon is under criminal investigation for swindling and money laundering in especially large proportions, which caused harm to the Savings Bank (Banca de Economii) by over 800 million lei. The prosecutors concluded that the money obtained by fraud as credits had been transferred to the accounts of several off-shore companies in order to disguise the illegal origin, and subsequently, used to settle some debts in Moldovan banks.
