PL leader as candidate for head of state in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Chairman of Partidul Liberal (PL) (Liberal Party) Mihai Ghimpu, was appointed today as the party's candidate for the presidential elections of 30 October.
The decision was taken on 31 August by the Republican Council of PL. "The Party’s Political Bureau decided that we will go to presidential elections with own candidate. A candidate who will support the union of Bessarabia with Romania, an objective that can be achieved only through a unionist President. Therefore, the Political Bureau’s decision is to nominate him as candidate for the presidential election on the PL party leader Mihai Ghimpu," said deputy Liberal Valeriu Munteanu.
"The fight for the national cause continues. The main objectives designated as a candidate in the presidential election are: Union of Moldova with Romania, lifting the economy and social welfare. I want this, since I should do more than the other candidates, who, I think, have personal and group interests," said the Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu.
Today started the campaign for direct presidential elections. During the day, more political parties submitted their nominations to the President of the country, these include: PSRM – Igor Dodon, Partidului Platforma Demnitate si Adevar (Party Platform Truth and Dignity) – Andrei Nastase, Partidul Nostru (Our Party) – Dmitri Ciubasenco.
