Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Chairman of Partidul Democrat (PDM) (the Democratic Party of Moldova), Marian Lupu, was appointed today as the party's candidate for the presidential elections of 30 October.

The decision was taken today by the National Political Council (CPN) of PDM. "CPN took into consideration the results of consultations in the territory. Thus, as a candidate for head of state formation was submitted to Chairman Marian Lupu. He is an experienced person, who all these years has been present on the political scene," said honorary chairman Dumitru Diacov.

"The decision by CPN was unanimous. PDM could not take another decision. Mr. Lupu is the person who will be able to ensure stability and balance in Moldova. Surely, that we want to reach the second round, afterwards, PDM will defeat in the presidential elections," said Speaker Andrian Candu.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that today's decision is natural. "Marian Lupu is a known person.
