Moldovan Communists to boycott presidential election

14:00 | 04.09.2016 Category: Political

Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/- The Party of Communists (PCRM) will boycott the presidential election due on 30 October. The formation's political executive committee took the decision today.

PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin said that "this decision was taken as the direct presidential elections are not constitutional, and the actions of future president will be illegal from the very beginning. Therefore, we cannot act against the law," he said.

"We will go through towns and will talk to electors not to participate in elections. We think this is the only right way," he said.

Earlier, eight political formations and five independent candidates have applied for the president position. Among them are: the Party of Socialists - Igor Dodon, Democratic Party - Marian Lupu, Liberal Party - Mihai Ghimpu, European People's Party of Moldova - Iurie Leanca, Dignity and Truth Platform Party - Andrei Nastase, Action and Solidarity Party - Maia Sandu and Our Party - Dmitri Ciubasenco.
