Moldovan prime minister: We want to establish new mechanism for pension calculating, based on social equity

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened today a working group on implementation of the reform of the pension system. Discussions focused on progress in preparing draft laws, the difficulties faced by the authorities in this process, and more needs to establish a fair system for all beneficiaries, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The Prime Minister stressed that reforming the pension system is absolutely necessary to ensure citizens' sufficient income and in accordance with their contribution to the social security system. The PM said, in context, to be very important that the reform to ensure social equity in this area. Also, Pavel Filip requested the institutions involved to strictly observe the terms set so that the new provisions should be applied starting 1 January 2017.
"We all agree that we need to reform the current pension system, we want to establish a new mechanism for calculating the pension, based on social equity and corresponding to the contributions paid. We need to look at what stage we are now, if any constraints or barriers, to overcome them, in order to stay within the established terms," the Premier said.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Family, currently they are working on the draft law on pension reform, to be presented for discussion and public consultation. At the same time, to define new formula for social pension, it was requested development partners and international experts' technical assistance.
The legislative amendments suggested, provide mechanism change of pensions payment, strengthening institutional structures for managing the pension system, reducing social inequalities and the formation of a more attractive pension scheme with an enhanced level of benefits.
There is to remind that in early August this year, Prime Minister Pavel Filip approved the concept of reforming the pension system. The decision was taken following consultation with Cabinet of members, development partners, governmental organizations and experts in the field.
