Opening Embassies in Chisinau, Tokyo generates Moldovan-Japanese relations

Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/ – Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti today received Motomit Takisawa, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who visited Chisinau on inauguration of the Embassy of Japan, the presidential press service has reported.

During the meeting, officials discussed Moldovan-Japanese relations aspects related to inauguration of diplomatic missions in Chisinau and Tokyo, serving to boost high-level agenda of contacts and bilateral sectoral cooperation.

The Head of State welcomed the effective stage of Moldovan-Japanese relations and stressed on need to increase trade and Moldova's interest to attract Japanese investment.

Also, President Timofti noted that consistent support provided by Japan to implement projects in the field of agriculture, education and health and advocated expanding funds in areas of common interest, stressing that the dynamic of relations with Japan is one of the priorities of Moldova’s foreign policy.

At his turn, Motomit Takisawa said that his country is open to the launched projects expansion in Moldova and investment of Japanese capital. "In Moldova it was established already a Japanese firm, providing over 800 jobs. Japan intends to broaden the spectrum of investment in Moldova", said Parliamentary Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Japan is the third largest donor of Moldova (after the US and EU). Until 2016, Japan offered Moldova non-refundable financial assistance worth over 92 million US dollars and loan support of over 108 million US dollars.
