Moldovan authorities to take emergency actions to avoid risk of swine fever in country

Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today expressed concern about the cases of African swine fever (ASF) on the rise, registered in Ukraine, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
"Data show that the situation in this country becomes more alaming. Under official information, in August the Ukrainian authorities notified 16 new outbreaks of contamination with this swine fever, which represents about 45 per cent of all outbreaks recorded in Ukraine. Recent new outbreaks are localized in the neighborhood of Moldova, and the risk for us is that this swine fever reach our country by inserting the meat contaminated with the ASF virus," he said.
In this context, the premier asked the National Agency for Food Safety and other authorities such as - Customs Service, Border Police, Interior Ministry to take emergency actions in order to avoid the risk for entering the country of the meat contaminated with the ASF virus. At the same time, Filip ordered to convene a meeting of the commission for emergencies to approve an action plan on preventing inserting swine fever in Moldova.
The measures are to be coordinated with the Ukrainian side in order to have a better communication on the matter and to inform people crossing the border about the temporary restrictions due to be set.
