Moldovan Bureau for Reintegration's statement about so-called "decree" of Tiraspol leader on "republican referendum of 17 September 2006"

Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ – Bureau for Reintegration noted with consternation the so-called "decree" of Tiraspol leader on implementing the results of the so-called "republican referendum of 17 September 2006" regarding the "independence" of Transnistria and " its further joining the Russian Federation," stated the Bureau for Reintegration.

Moldovan authorities qualify the act in question as one void, given the fact that it was issued by an unconstitutional authority in a referendum held illegally on a part of the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The Bureau for Reintegration expresses regret and deep disappointment that the act in question undermines the constitutional efforts and international partners involved in the negotiations in the "5 + 2" format designed to identify a viable solution to the Transnistrian conflict, respecting the sovereignty and integrity of Moldova's territorial and developing a special legal status for Transnistria. Such reprehensible and defiantly behaviour is worth more to be blamed in terms of recent re-launch of negotiations regarding the Transnistrian conflict settlement and the need to solve urgent problems facing people on both sides of the Dniester.

In this context, the Moldovan authorities are addressing the international actors involved in the Transnistrian conflict settlement with the request to take action against the act issued on 7 September by Tiraspol leader to avoid a skid of the negotiation process and new tensions’ appearance in this part of Europe.
