Moldovan liberals' leader registered as candidate for president

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ – The leader of Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu was registered today by the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the election campaign for President of Moldova.
CEC Secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae, at the meeting, said the set of documents submitted to the Commission met the requirements of the Electoral Code. “According to the act of delivery and acceptance and subscription lists presented by Mihai Ghimpu, CEC received for checking 870 subscription lists with 25,000 signatures by supporters out of 28 administrative and territorial units of the second level.
At the same time, 85 lists were returned without being checked, as the number of signatures exceeded the highest established ceiling. Following verification, the CEC members found out that there were the needed number of signatures to back the candidate for President of Moldova. Also, I say that the initiative group did not open active account, carrying out activities which do not involve financial spending,” Agrigoroae said.
CEC Chairman Alina Russu specified that “under the legislation the electoral contender will be able to start the electoral agitation campaign only beginning 30 September this year.”
Earlier, PDM candidate Marian Lupu, PPEM candidate Iurie Leanca and the Party Platform Truth and Dignity candidate Andrei Nastase presented to CEC petitions containing the signatures collected in their support. Marian Lupu was CEC registered within the election campaign for President of Moldova.
Since the election period beginning, CEC has registered 24 initiative groups to collect signatures in support of candidates for the President of Moldova. These include Marian Lupu – PDM, Mihai Ghimpu – PL, Igor Dodon – PSRM, Iurie Leanca – PPEM, Andrei Nastase – Party Platform Dignity and Truth, Maia Sandu - Action and Solidarity Party and Dmitri Ciubasenco – Our Party.
