Moldovan defence ministry trains observers for UN operations

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Defence ministry carries out a training course for 18 National Army officers, who will subsequently participate in peacekeeping operations under the UN aegis as military observers.  

According to the head of the Continuous Qualification centre at the Alexandru cel Bun Armed Forces' Military Academy, lieutenant-colonel Ion Cozma, within the course held on 13-20 September this year, servicemen study strategic and military objectives of UN missions, legal, security, health and safety aspects, as well as communication with mass media.  

The practical stage, due to be carried out at the Bulboaca military base, has at its basis a scenario of peacekeeping operations, within which officers will apply the knowledge got at theoretical meetings.

The course for Moldovan officers, who are trained for missions as military observers under the UN aegis, have been organized once in two years starting from 2007. Presently, over ten servicemen of the National Army act as observers in UN mission in South Sudan, Ivory Coast and other African states.
