USA to provide Moldova with assistance to develop democratic, transparent governance

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ – The cabinet of ministers today approved a decision to start negotiations and sign an agreement on assistance between the Government of Moldova and the Federal Government of the United States, to achieve democratic, efficient and responsible governance in Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Under the Agreement, the US Government will provide Moldova with a grant worth 4.2 million dollars. The money will be used for projects to improve public involvement in decision-making in Moldova, ensure a more transparent and accountable judicial system, create friendly conditions for public authorities to resolve citizens' problems.

The agreement also aims at maintaining cooperation relations between the government and the United States, contributing to strengthening Moldova’s civil society and democratic processes, consolidating efforts to reform the justice sector, fight corruption, enhance the reliability of the electoral activities.

The bilateral agreement is to be signed in Chisinau by the end of September this year, and will be in force till 30 June, 2021.
