Leader of Moldovan European People's Party registered as candidate for president office

Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today registered the leader of the European People’s Party (PPEM), Iurie Leanca, in the electoral race for the office of Moldovan president.
The PPEM leader will be on the third position in the ballot paper, following the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Marian Lupu, (first position) and Mihai Ghimpu (second position).
At the meeting, CEC Secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae said that the set of documents submitted by Leanca to the Commission met the rigours of the Electoral Code. “According to the act on delivery and acceptance of documents and subscription lists presented by Iurie Leanca, CEC received for checking 825 subscription lists with over 20,000 signatures from 21 administrative and territorial units of the second level. Over 3,000 of all the signatures have been declared null,” Agrigoroae said.
“Following verifications, the Commission found out that more than 17,000 signatures are considered valid and meet the legal requirements to back the candidate for the office of Moldova’s president, within the limit of the requirements set. At the same time, CEC reminds that the initiative group for supporting the concerned candidate observed the provisions and submitted the financial report, with donations worth 3,409 lei indicated,” the CEC secretary said.
CEC head Alina Russu has earlier said that, “under the legislation, the electoral contender will be able to start the electoral agitation process only beginning with 30 September, this year.”
PDM candidate Marian Lupu and the candidacy of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Andrei Nastase, have previously submitted to CEC the subscription lists with the signatures collected to back them. CEC registered Marian Lupu and Mihai Ghimpu in the electoral race for the post of Moldovan president.
Since the beginning of the electoral period, CEC has recorded 24 initiative groups for the collection of signatures to support the candidates for the office of Moldova’s president. Among them, there are Marian Lupu – PDM, Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists, Iurie Leanca – PPEM, Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party and Dmitri Ciubasenco – Our Party.
