Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/- The United Nations has been one of the main supporters and partners of reforms implemented by the Moldovan authorities on the European integration way, with a string of projects carried out, related to development of institutional capacities and efficient governance, creation of economic opportunities, employment, etc.
Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic made statements to this effect at a meeting of strategic prioritization of UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) in Moldova for 2018-2022.
The Economics Ministry’s press service noted that Calmic had voiced confidence that the new assistance framework, as a continuity to the United States - Moldova Partnership Framework "Towards Unity in Action” 2013-2017 (UNPF), would be efficient for Moldova, as well and would significantly contribute to carrying out national strategies and international commitments of Moldova.
“The UN has contributed to achievements recorded by Moldova as regards the reform process, for European integration and therefore, to implementation of the action plan on liberalization of visa regime, signing of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, as well as reviewing/drafting of about 66 policy documents, laws, related normative acts and regulations, etc,” he said.
Calmic also pointed out that when carrying out UNPF, 168 projects and programmes worth over 217 million dollars had been carried out or were under implementation.
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Moldova Dafina Gercheva said that the new UNDAF would describe the actions and collective strategies of UN and its partners, to carry out the national development priorities for the next five years, that will also be an essential instrument to enforce the sustainable development goals in Moldova.
“The UN country team will use UNDAF as an instrument for direct involvement in development planning nationally and in sectors, as well as a mechanism with greater impact on development policies and programmes by providing support of consultancy and development of capacities,” Dafina Gercheva said.
Based on an analysis by UNPF and Joint Country assessment, four cooperation pillars have been identified for the new UNDAF: (1) – government, human rights and gender equality, (2) – sustainable, inclusive and fair economic growth, (3)– environmental sustainability and adaptation capacity, and (4) – inclusive and equitable social development.
