Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 15 judges and three bailiffs were detained following raids conducted by anticorruption prosecutors and the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) today. The anticorruption prosecutor, Viorel Morari, has made statements to this effect at a news briefing.
According to Morari, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office carried out a string of criminal prosecution actions in Moldovan courts and searches at homes of persons suspected of corruption acts. “Twenty persons are concerned in all, of whom 16 judges and four bailiffs. The today’s actions were carried out with the agreement of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). Thus, the prosecutor general submitted a notification to CSM today morning, subsequently the Council members authorized some of the requests,” Viorel Morari said.
The anticorruption prosecutor refused to provide details on the corruption case, in which magistrates are involved. He noted that “the criminal prosecution actions are underway; therefore, I cannot provide you other information. Measures will be taken tomorrow as well, and we will clear up the circumstances of the case in the afternoon,” Morari added.
