European Union urges Moldovan authorities to continue reform agenda, to ensure correct development of presidential elections

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip has met Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The event took place in New York, in the context of the United Nations works, and was focused on Moldova’s European progress, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Implementation of commitments assumed within the Association Agreement represented one of the key-issues of the discussion.
In the context, Filip reiterated the government’s determination to ensure applying the reforms. The premier informed about fulfillment of over 90 per cent of provisions set in the roadmap on reform agenda and efforts made for enforcing this document. The new Association Agenda with EU will have an important role to this end.
Filip thanked for the support provided by the EU and personally by Federica Mogherini in strengthening and extending cooperation with Moldova in the context of European Security and Defence Policy, as well as new EU Strategy on foreign and security policy. “Moldova has an important geopolitical position in Eastern Europe and wants to become the champion of reforms within the Eastern Partnership countries,” the Moldovan official said.
Also, the officials discussed the importance for Moldova to sign an agreement with International Monetary Fund. Federica Mogherini said that fulfillment of prerequisites submitted by IMF was important for the EU too, including in the context of resuming European funding. In another context, the European official urged the Moldovan authorities to continue the reform agenda, especially, in justice and banking sectors, and to ensure a correct and transparent development of presidential elections.
