Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/- Hungary will further back Moldova in the European integration path, believing that Moldova must have a clear and predictable chance for EU accession, if it proves capacities for development. Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér, on a visit to Moldova, made the statement at a today’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
“The visit will give new impetus to boosting the Moldovan-Hungarian interparliamentary cooperation. There is a strategic partnership of cooperation between the Moldovan parliament and Hungarian National Assembly, seen in the agreement signed in 2012, and intense relations at level of parliamentary commissions,” Candu said.
The speaker referred to the reform agenda by implementing the Association Agreement, the current evolutions in the country and government priorities, as well as to the efforts for strengthening the dialogue with Gagauzia and Transnistrian region. Candu voiced Moldovan parliament’s openness to take over the good practices of the Hungarian parliament in the European integration process and implementation of Community acquis.
“Government priorities are related to implementing the Association Agreement, returning to cooperation with IMF, reform in justice and fight against corruption, strengthening the energy and agricultural sectors. Moldova is looking for the best European models in these fields, which have proven efficiency in time. We are open to take over Hungarian models that worked better and gave results,” he said.
For his part, László Kövér reiterated Hungary’s support for Moldova’s European integration, appreciating the achievements recorded by the country by implementing about 90 per cent of measures and commitments seen in the roadmap on reform agenda, signed by parliament and government.
“Hungary opts for extending the EU. The EU must give chances to the states proving desire and capacities for development and Moldova must have a clear and predictable chance for EU accession,” he said.
László Kövér pointed out that a delegation of foreign political commission of the Hungarian National Assembly would visit Moldova by late 2016 for transfer of best practices to Moldovan MPs in the European integration sector.
Attending the event were also MPs Valentina Buliga, head of the commission on foreign policy and European integration, and Radu Mudreac, head of the friendship group of Moldovan parliament with Hungary.
László Kövér pays a visit to Moldova on 20-22 September. On 22 September, the official will visit Gagauzia.
