Moldovan, European officials broach reforms

Chisinau, 22 September /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip has met President of the European Council Donald Tusk in the context of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The event was focused on exchange of opinions about developments on the European continent, including in the Eastern Partnership region. Filip reiterated that the European integration was Moldova’s country project and the current government would take efforts to meet this goal and to ensure decent living of people, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Filip informed the European official about fulfillment of over 90 per cent of provisions set in the roadmap on reform agenda, and now all draft laws would be implemented. He reconfirmed determination to carry out all reforms even those unpopular. “I do not want to build political future. I take risks of promoted reforms, but I am determined to carry out all reforms, so that Moldova should not be returned from its European path,” he said.
In the context, Filip also approached the relations with International Monetary Fund (IMF), reaching a staff level agreement, and in October 2016, a cooperation agreement would be signed. For his part, Donald Tusk said that signing an agreement with IMF was important both for Moldova and European Union.
The European official encouraged the Moldovan authorities to advance in implementing reforms, including in the banking sector, in order to return the trust of foreign partners and citizens in the state institutions. Tusk assured that the EU would back Moldova in implementing reforms and carrying out its European goals.
