Moldovan deputy foreign minister attends ministerial meeting of LLDC

Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii participated in the 15th ministerial meeting of the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) on 22 September. The event is organized in the context of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.
Participants in the meeting discussed various cooperation issues, seen via the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including ways aimed at ensuring the necessary synergy with the Vienna Programme of Action for LLDCs (2014-2024) in the process of implementation.
In his statement delivered during the meeting, Darii emphasized the importance of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for LLDC countries, as well their special needs for assistance in order to achieve the Development Sustainable Goals. The efforts of the Moldovan government aimed at expanding and boosting the foreign trade and attracting investments with a view to improve infrastructure, particularly in the field of transport in telecommunications, were also highlighted.
The meeting adopted a ministerial communiqué, by which the 32 LLDCs reaffirmed their commitment to speed up the streamlining of the Vienna Programme of Action in their national policies in synergy with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
LLDC Group consist of 32 African, European, South American, and Asian countries members of the UN, facing challenges in promoting trade relations and economic growth, caused by lack of access to the sea, long distance positioning from markets, weak infrastructure, and tariff and nontariff barriers. To overcome these challenges, the Vienna Programme of Action has been adopted at the Second LLDC conference, organized in November 2014, in Vienna. The Programme establishes development priorities for LLDCs in areas such as transit policies, developing and maintaining infrastructure, easing trade and regional integration.
