Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/- The law on youth was published in the Official Journal of Moldova today.

Under the draft, the age limit of youth will be between 14 and 35 years. So far, it was between 16 and 30 years. “Thus, it will ensure broader participation of young people in extracurricular activities, including those in rural areas, and involvement in the national and international economic programmes,” the document reads.

Also, the draft sees boosting entrepreneurial initiatives of young people, facilitating their employment, turning to good account skills and developing professional competence, creating a proper environment for the physical development, as well as providing young people with dwellings. At the same time, the new legislative regulations recommend the local public authorities to involve young people and youth organizations in elaborating and implementing youth policies.

The document also sees “the main institutional structures, respectively forms of participation and association of young people. Thus, National Agency for Development of Programmes and Youth Activity will be set up, which will be responsible for implementing and promoting policies in the field, as well as ensuring quality of youth services at national and local level,” the law reads.

The draft also stipulates recognition of other informal structures of youth, such as: initiative groups, student senates, youth organizations of political parties.

Under official data, over 870,900 young people are residing in Moldova, 58.6 per cent live in villages and 41.4 per cent – in cities.
