Moldovan foreign minister participates in meeting of Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM

Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur has participated today at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM, on the margins of this year’s United Nations General Assembly held in New York, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's information and media communication service has reported.
The meeting covered a wide array of topics, with particular focus on strengthening political, parliamentary and sectoral cooperation within GUAM, extending cooperation with other organizations and states, presentation and examination of the financial report of GUAM for the current year, as well as approval of the budget for the next year.
Among the topics discussed during the meeting was the nomination of countries to coordinate working groups for the period 2017-2018, as well as the activity of the Program Coordinators of the GUAM Secretariat.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants of the GUAM Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs signed a joint statement.
The creation of the consultative forum GUAM, composed of 4 states (Georgia, Ukraine, Republic of Azerbaijan and Republic of Moldova) took place on 10 October 1997 in Strasbourg, during the Summit of the Council of Europe. The institutionalization of the organization took place in Kiev in 2006, the Initiative obtaining the status of an international organization under the title: Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM.
The main structures and events of the Organization are the following: the annual meeting (Summit) of the Heads of State (supreme body); the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs (the executive body); the Committee of National Coordinators (working body); the Information Office, with the Secretariat being instituted in 2007.
