Moldovan parliament declares 2017 as Year Nicolae Testemiteanu

Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament at a today’s meeting adopted a draft decision on declaring 2017 as Year of Nicolae Testemitanu.

Under the document, a string of cultural and scientific events dedicated to marking the 90th birthday anniversary of the scientist will be organized throughout the next year.

Nicolae Testemitanu was an outstanding physician, scientist and academician, and his contribution to modernizing the medicine system is highly appreciated both in Moldova and abroad. Testemitanu is regarded as the author of a concept of organizing the medical assistance in rural regions and a strategy of training highly qualified staff in this sector.

At the same time, in 1963-1968, Nicolae Testemitanu held the office of Health Minister. Testemitanu distinguished himself by actions to strengthen the technical and material basis of medical institutions and enforcement of the most modern forms and ways of work.

The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Moldova bears the name of Nicolae Testemitanu.
