High-intensity earthquake jolts Moldova, no damages recorded

Chisinau, 24 September /MOLDPRES/ - A high-intensity earthquake jolted Moldova last night at 2:11. According to the Bucharest-based National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics, the seism with a magnitude of 5.8 degrees on the Richter open scale took place in the Vrancea region, Romania, at a depth of 112 km.
Data by the Geology and Seismology Institute at the Moldovan Academy of Science shows that the earthquake’s epicenter was situated at a distance of about 220 km far from Chisinau.
In Moldova, the earthquake had an intensity of almost 5 degrees in the seismic scale of 12 degrees (MSK 64). The earthquake was felt most strongly in the southern region.
According to data by the Civilian Protection and Emergency Situations Service at the Interior Ministry, no material damages have been recorded in Moldova.
