Moldova to open 100 polling stations abroad for presidential elections on 30 October

Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ – A total of 100 polling stations will be opened abroad of the Republic of Moldova for the election of the President which will be held on October 30, according to a decision approved today by the Government.

There are supposed to be opened 100 polling stations in total, while 40 out of 100 will be registered within the diplomatic missions that Moldova has got, and 60 others will function outside them, declared at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur. He did not mention where and how many polling sections will be opened exactly, referring only to Romania, where there will be open 11 polling stations, out of which 2 – in Bucharest, similar to the previous elections.

The Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu, noted in this context that the Russian Federation will open three polling stations additionally to the number of the previous elections. The Foreign Minister Andrei Galbur, said that in setting the number of polling stations abroad, there was considered prior registration of citizens' associations in the Diaspora and previous vote participation rates practice.

According to the Central Election Commission, 3570 Moldovan citizens with the right to vote and who are abroad, registered online prior to the elections of 30 October this year.

There are more than 750 thousand citizens of Moldova abroad, according to the data of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

At the 2014 parliamentary elections in Moldova, there were opened 95 polling stations abroad. At the elections, there voted 71 636 citizens who were outside of Moldova.
