First Hub centre on supporting IT business opened in Chisinau

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDRES/- First iHub Centre was opened in Chisinau today. It is meant to connect IT sector with potential investors from the country and from abroad. The project was carried out with the support of the Norwegian government, US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Technical University of Moldova.

Hub is set to gather people, resources, experience and proper contents in order to back innovation and business in IT sector. Space will boost cooperation and culture of community, supporting development of viable products created by IT entrepreneurs.

“IT sector had been identified among seven competitive advantages of Moldova and we have to find all the ways to develop it. We are going to include iHubs in business incubators from the country, at least in the one that is going to be launched in the first half of 2017, a Hub of this kind will be opened in Cahul,” Deputy Economics Minister Vitalie Iurcu said.

For his part, Deputy Information Technology and Communications Minister Vitalie Tarlev said that iHub was another brick added to support informational society from Moldova. “Carrying out such initiatives, our country is likely to become a modern state,” Tarlev said.

The Chisinau-based Hub has an area of 400 square meters and will host start-ups and freelancers in the IT sector. Residents will benefit from workspaces adjusted to trends, needs and resources. They will have the opportunity to connect to local and international networks of investors, to meet potential partners, to access business events, to take advantage of useful programmes and an effective transfer of know-how.

iHub is created with the support of the Norwegian government within a public -private partnership between the Technical University of Moldova and Excellence Centre in ICT – TEKWILL, funded by USAID, aimed at developing IT community in Moldova and supporting ideas and start-ups.
