Poland to back Moldova in reforming security, defence sector

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Poland is willing to further support Moldova in reforming and modernizing the security and defence sector. Polish Ambassador to Moldova Artur Michalski has made statements to this effect at a meeting with Defence Minister Anatol Salaru.   

In the context, Minister Salaru appreciated the Polish government’s contribution to developing the cooperation relations between the defence institutions of the two countries, especially in implementing projects with social impact for Moldova’s citizens. The defence minister appreciated Poland’s support in carrying out the NATO/Partnership for Peace Project for Destruction of Pesticides and Dangerous Chemicals in Moldova. Within the project, the Polish side provided Moldova with 35,000 euros to evacuate and destroy 320 tons of pesticides from the districts of Comrat and Falesti.

Referring to the bilateral cooperation, Anatol Salaru referred to the education offer for National Army’s servicemen in specialty education institutions from Poland, where seven military have studied so far. In this respect, Anatol Salaru said that the defence attaché, colonel Jan Mysczynski had had an essential contribution to implementing these projects, as well as to the participation of a Polish Army’s contingent in the military parade dedicated to the 25th anniversary of proclamation of Moldova’s independence.   

At the meeting, Defence Minister Anatol Salaru awarded the medal, „Pentru consolidarea frăției de arme” (For Strengthening Brotherhood in Arms) to colonel Jan Mysczynski for the efforts made to develop the bilateral cooperation and on the occasion of the end of his mandate.
