Eighth conference of Association of Constitutional Court using French Language inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Presidents and judges from 30 Constitutional Courts (CC) today participated in the opening of the eighth conference of the heads of the member institutions of the Association of Constitutional Court using the French Language (ACCPUF). The event takes place in Moldova for the first time ever.     

Attending the conference, President Nicolae Timofti said that “namely CC has the role to enforce the legal provisions, ensure the supremacy of the Constitution, stabilize and develop democracy in Moldova, and despite divergences of parties, the Court should not deviate from the national interest and goals, in case of our country, development on European dimension,” Timofti said.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip noted that “in a state based on the rule of law, the Court watches that the laws should be enforced equally for all citizens, and the legal systems should work in line with the social justice’s requirements. At the same time, the recent history of our country shows us that, in the situation of political and social incertitude, the Court was a decisive factor for maintaining the political and legislative action within the limits of the Constitution,” Filip said.

For his part, President of the Moldovan Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase said that “the holding of the meeting in Chisinau proves that Moldova’s Constitutional Court is an institutions meeting the highest international standards in terms of exercising the constitutional jurisdiction. I may emphasize the fact that Moldova is a founding member of this association. We participated in all events organized by ACCPUF, we also benefit from their support, for instance, last year, we received an important donation of books, which allowed us having the best library of juridical literature,” Tanase said.   

ACCPUF President Gilbert Kolly thanked the hosts for invitation and cooperation. “I am happy that the meeting is held in Chisinau for the first time ever. At the event, we will discuss organization of the contradictory procedure, each state’s representatives will carry out interventions, which will be included into a general synthesis,” Kolly added.  

The Association of Constitutional Court using the French Language is made up of 45 members from Africa, Europe, North America (Canada) and Asia. Moldova has been an ACCPUF member starting from the foundation year – 1997.
