Moldovan government prohibits meat imports from Ukraine to prevent swine flu spread

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved a decision to temporarily ban the import from Ukraine of animals receptive to the African swine flu virus, seminal material, meat, preparations, products and sub-products of animal origin coming from animals receptive the African swine flu, as well as of raw material for fodder, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The decision comes as a consequence of a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations from 27 September, summoned by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, during which a plan of measures on preventing the spread of the African swine flu in Moldova was approved. The document sees, inter alia, that the National Agency for Food Safety will coordinate the actions to prevent the spread of the African swine flu in Moldova and will provide needed funds to carry out activities to control the virus.
At the same time, the competent institutions are to provide a comprehensive campaign on informing the residents about the swine flu virus, in order to carry out a better control of the situation and prevent the virus’ spread.
