Seven independent candidates for Moldovan president office submit lists with signatures to electoral body

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ – Seven independent candidates submitted today to the Central Election Commission (CEC) petitions containing the collected signatures in their support for the presidential elections of 30 October.
These are: Valeriu Ghiletchi, who presented to CEC over 18 thousand signatures, Maia Laguta – about 18,000, Ion Dron – 17,000, Roman Mihaes – about 16,000, Vasile Tarlev – about 16,000, Vitalia Pavlicenco – over 15,000 and Silvia Radu – about 16,000 signatures.
Also today, there will take place the draw to determine the position on the ballot for all candidates who submitted their applications to CEC recently.
Following the procedure, the Commission has to verify sets of documents submitted within seven days and decide registration of candidates in the electoral race.
The period for submitting subscription lists concludes on 29 September and commencing 30 September, those candidates who were registered can officially start the electoral campaign.
From the election period start, CEC registered 24 initiative groups to collect signatures in support of candidates proposed for the position of the President of Moldova. Just 16 competitors were able to gather and submit the sufficient required number of signatures to CEC, out of the total number.
At the same time, CEC scored so far eight candidates as contenders for President Marian Lupu – the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party (PL), Iurie Leanca – PPEM (People’s European Party of Moldova), Andrei Nastase – PPDA (Party Platform Dignity and Truth), Ina Popenco – Ravnopravye (Equality), Dumitru Ciubasenco – PN (Our Party), Maia Sandu – PAS (Action and Solidarity Part) and Igor Dodon – PSRM (Socialist Party of Moldova). For other eight candidates, CEC will pronounce its decision till 6 October 2016.
