Moldovan, American officials approach bilateral relations

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/- On a working visit to the USA, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met Speaker of United States House of Representatives Paul Ryan on 29 September, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The officials approached topical issues on agenda of legislative cooperation between Moldova and USA, developments in the country and region, European integration agenda and reforms, cooperation level with IMF and international donors, as well as ways of development and consolidation of the Moldovan-American dialogue.

In the context of the 25th anniversary of Moldova’s independence, Candu thanked for the constant support provided during all the years in development and transition to a system based on democratic values. In this context, the Moldovan parliamentary majority expressed its firm stance to back government in taking and implementing national reforms, to combat corruption and create an appropriate framework for developing the business environment and to facilitate Western investment climate in the country. In the context, Candu announced his intention to create a joint commission for strategic dialogue, ProAmerica, at parliamentary level.

At the same time, Candu underlined that the Moldovan government was willing to deepen the relations for strengthening the bilateral partnership in the political, economic and social sectors. The speaker said he relied on Ryan’s personal support in efforts for resuming the activity of the Moldovan-American intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, meant to directly contribute to boosting the economic bilateral cooperation.

Also, Candu voiced hope that after elections in US Congress in November 2016, it would be ensured continuity of activity of Congressional Moldova Caucus group. He said consolidation of activity of Friends of Moldova Group in American Congress had an important contribution to promoting the bilateral relations, especially, to strengthening the parliamentary level, having the role of boosting development processes in Moldova. Candu invited his American counterpart to pay a working visit to Moldova.

For his part, Ryan was interested in internal developments in Moldova in security sector, level of negotiations on Transnistrian problem in the five plus two format, contribution of German chairmanship to OSCE.

Ryan assured of further support of Moldovan government’s efforts for meeting the goals on strengthening the rule of law, including implementing reforms in the key-sectors. He accepted to visit Moldova next period.
