Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/-Presidential election campaign starts today, 30 September.
The deputy head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Rodica Ciubotaru, said that only registered candidates could start the process of agitation. “At the same time, the electoral contenders who submitted the documents on 29 September, will be waiting for verification by CEC within seven days of the documents and decision to set them in electoral competition,” Ciubotaru said.
Under the Electoral Code, the contenders registered in the electoral race “can make agitation within gatherings, rallies, meetings with voters, through media, exposing electoral posters or other forms of communication.”
At the same time, the local public administration authorities are obliged within three days of start date of the election period to set and to guarantee a minimum of special places for electoral posters, as well as locations for holding meetings with voters. Also, on election day and the day before election, no electoral propaganda is admitted. This ban does not refer to information already placed in internet and posters.
Under the regulations approved by CEC, the expenses admitted in the election campaign are nearly 65 million lei.
CEC has registered 24 initiative groups for collecting signatures to support candidates for president position. Only 16 candidates out of the total number managed to collect and to present the necessary signatures to CEC.
At the same time, the commission has set so far eight candidates for president position: Marian Lupu – PDM, Mihai Ghimpu – PL, Iurie Leanca –PPEM, Andrei Nastase – PPDA, Ina Popenco –Ravnopravie Party, Dumitru Ciubasenco –PN, Maia Sandu –PAS and Igor Dodon –PSRM. Referring to other eight candidates, CEC is to rule on till 6 October.
