Moldovan Democrats' leader starts electoral campaign

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Marian Lupu, today started the electoral campaign for the presidential polls due on 30 October.
Marian Lupu will be on the first position on the ballot paper, and his electoral slogan will be I Here, I Listen, I Solve.
At the official launch of his presidential campaign, the PDM leader said that Moldova was facing serious problems which must be settled. “We want to create a prosperous country, which will provide the citizens with jobs and decent salaries. We rely on the growth of the economy, agriculture, industry and services sector. At the same time, we will insist on the setting up of new education institutions with modern technologies, so that young people have access to needed jobs,” Lupu noted.
The PDM candidate specified that he was set to undertake concrete actions to fight corruption. “We will create a commission made up of European authorities to fight and combat the corruption phenomenon. Another goal is to set up a working group made up of lawyers and law professors from Moldova to monitor the integrity system, in order to investigate and make concrete proposals of severe punishments for official persons,” Lupu said.
In the end of his speech, Marian Lupu said that he was a Moldovan and that he was pride of his country. “For me, a brotherly coexistence with all ethnic minorities matters – this is also the way to settling older disputes. As president of Moldova, I will be able to listen to people and I am the one who will get involved in the settlement of the problems of our nation. I am a convinced European and I want a better life for our children and grandchildren, with more opportunities of success here, at home,” Lupu said.
Marian Lupu was born in the Balti municipality on 20 June 1966. He is economist by profession. In 2003-2005, Lupu acted as economics minister. Starting from 2005 till present, Marian Lupu has been lawmaker of the Moldovan parliament. In December 2010 – March 2012, Lupu held the office of acting president of Moldova.
The electoral campaign for the presidential polls started today. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has registered eight candidates as contenders for the office of Moldovan president so far: Marian Lupu on behalf of PDM, Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova, Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Political Party, Ina Popenco – Ravnopravie (Equality of Rights), Dumitru Ciubasenco – Our Party, Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party and Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists. In case of another eight candidates, CEC is to make public its opinion till 6 October.
