Moldovan European People's Party leader starts electoral campaign

Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM), Iurie Leanca, today started the electoral campaign for the presidential polls due on 30 October.
Iurie Leanca will be on the third position on the ballot paper.
At the official launch, the PPEM leader said that, in this campaign, “PPEM will focus on human principles and values, which will change the citizens’ lives for the better and the living standards will acquire another aspect than the present one.”
“A president must have capacity to negotiate with any country leader, no matter the principles he/she is promoting. I will be the president who brings prosperity from the West to people’s homes. I will be the voice between the people and the government. To reset the situation emerged in the country, I intend to fulfill ten points for Moldova, which will bring well-being and prosperity to the state, we will get the support of western officials, we will edify an independent and tough justice, we will have special cooperation with Romania and Germany, we will develop the relations with the markets from the East, etc.,” Leanca noted.
Iurie Leanca was born in the Cimislia town, southern Moldova, on 20 October 1963. Leanca started his activity in 1989, when he was appointed deputy secretary of the embassy of the former Soviet Union in Bucharest, Romania. Starting from 2009 till 2013, he acted as first deputy prime minister and foreign and European integration minister of Moldova. On 23 April 2013, Leanca was appointed acting prime minister, and on 15 May, the same year, he was appointed prime minister. Iurie Leanca held this position till February 2015.
The electoral campaign for the presidential polls started on 30 September. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has registered eight candidates as contenders for the office of Moldovan president so far: Marian Lupu on behalf of PDM, Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova, Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Political Party, Ina Popenco – Ravnopravie (Equality of Rights), Dumitru Ciubasenco – Our Party, Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party and Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists. In case of another eight candidates, CEC is to make public its opinion till 6 October.
