More domestic wine producers become winners of Golden Barrel contest

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - The winners of the 15th issue of the Polobocul de Aur (Golden Barrel) contest were awarded prizes at the National Wine Day on 2 October. The event is annually organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI).
At the event, CCI President Sergiu Harea stressed that ‘’beginning with 2002, the institution he leads has been organizing this contest in order to turn to good account the tradition of producing domestic wine, to notice the best producers and improve the culture of consumption and facilitate the exchange of experience between the native wine producers.’’
The Golden Barrel contest is appreciated by professional tasters and the most skillful producers of domestic wine are awarded prizes. ’’We are happy with the fact that, year by year, more and more wine-makers participate in this contest and Golden Barrel gets an increasingly higher popularity. During the 15 issues, more than 7,000 samples of wine have been displayed, of which 140 became winners,’’ Sergiu Harea noted.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasile Luca congratulated the 11 winners of the contest. Luca stressed that they had made efforts to produce good wines and promote Moldova as one of the countries with the best and most qualitative wines.
The grand prize, a barrel of 120 litres, was awarded to the contest winners in the following nominalizations: young wine of technical varieties; young wine of hybrid varieties; domestic wine of the previous years; desert wine; the best white wine and the best red wine.
Over 600 domestic wines competed at the 2016 issue of the Golden Barrel contest, of which 110 reached the republican stage.
