Moldovan Liberals' leader begins electoral campaign

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, on 2 October started the electoral campaign for the presidential polls due on 30 October.
Mihai Ghimpu will be on the second position on the ballot paper and his electoral slogan is – „Uniți pentru Unire!” (United for Union!) .
At the official launch, held on the Union Square in Iasi, Romania, Mihai Ghimpu said that, in this campaign, PL would have a single project, the goal of which was the unification between the two states – Moldova and Romania.
‘’After getting the independence, Moldova had to unify with Romania. This was not done, as the then Moldovan politicians had a Soviet mentality. At present, I launch the campaign that will reunify the two states, which were separated. My decision to start the electoral campaign in Iasi reproduces the concept of my electoral programme best of all,’’ Ghimpu noted.
Mihai Ghimpu was born in the village of Colonita, Chisinau municipality on 19 November 1951. He acted as Moldovan parliament speaker starting from 28 August 2009 till 28 December 2010 and held the office of acting president of Moldova on 11 September 2009 – 28 December 2010.
The electoral campaign for the presidential polls started on 30 September. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has registered eight candidates as contenders for the office of Moldovan president so far: Marian Lupu on behalf of PDM, Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova, Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Political Party, Ina Popenco – Ravnopravie (Equality of Rights), Dumitru Ciubasenco – Our Party, Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party and Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists. In case of another eight candidates, CEC is to make public its opinion till 6 October.
