Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today rejected two contests submitted by the Democratic Party (PDM) on the violation of the Electoral Code by two candidates for the Moldovan president office.
At the meeting, a CEC member, Maxim Lebedinschii, said that, in the first contest, the Democrats demanded the contestation of the violation by the electoral contender, Maia Sandu, of the provisions of article 47 of the Electoral Code, which sees banning the use of materials, in which historical personalities from Moldova appear, on the electoral advertising purpose. “Thus, they demanded applying a sanction for the carrying out of an electoral agitation event against the background of the bust of writer Mihai Eminescu in the Hincesti town,” Lebedinschii said.
The second contest concerns the violation of the same article from the Electoral Code by the candidate for the office of Moldovan president, Igor Dodon. The latter gave a news conference in front of the monument to Ruler Stefan cel Mare, where he unveiled a part of his electoral programme. At the same event, the Socialists’ leader, Igor Dodon, used the flag of Moldova and the one of the political formation he leads.
The representative of the electoral competitor Maia Sandu and the one of candidate Igor Dodon turned down the charges brought.
Subsequently, the CEC members ascertained that, in both cases, the events had not represented actions of electoral advertising; thus, they rejected the accusations, describing them as groundless.
Also today, the Commission set the model of the ballot paper and the order of registration of the candidates for the Moldovan president post in the latter.
