About 100 Moldovan settlements hit by recent heavy rains

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ – Almost one hundred localities in 12 districts of Moldova were partly disconnected from electricity due to heavy rains and gusts of wind in the recent 24 hours, the Service of Civil Protection and Emergencies’ (SPCSE) information and media communication service has reported.
According to SPCSE’s press service, these are: Cantemir (24 villages), Hincesti (16 villages), Nisporeni (13 villages), Leova (12 villages), Gagauzia (9 villages) Ialoveni (7 villages), Taraclia (5 villages), Cahul (4 villages), Cimislia (3 villages) Causeni (2 villages), Calarasi and Chisinau. More specialized teams are working in the field for reconnecting consumers to the electricity system.
"Also, in the area Borceag, Cucoara and Tataresti in Cahul several trees were broken because of strong wind. In Cahul, after strong wind gusts, there were blown down two trees that partially destroyed two cars. No one was hurt. Rescuers with Sanitation Service employees intervened and removed the trees on the road, thus, reopening the traffic circulation. Similarly, in Comrat, but also on the route Ceadir-Lunga-Tomai more trees were brought down," reads a press release of the institution.
The firefighters intervened and primary school "Alexandru Donici" in Cahul, where streams of water flooded the institution yard. The rescuers cleaned the drainage channels and watercourses diverted, thus eliminating the risk of flooding the school. Several courtyards Manta and Colibasi villages in the same district were flooded. Strong gusts of wind tore metal roofing on many houses in Ceadir-Lunga.
Due to adverse weather conditions in several districts of the capital it was disconnected electricity.
The Hydrometeorology service announced for 12-13 October Orange Code of heavy rains throughout Moldova.
According to experts, the weather conditions of the Orange Code presents real danger of high intensity weather phenomena (storm, rain, thunder, hail, heat, frost, flood risk, etc.) which may have a negative impact upon the socio-economic activities and can cause substantial material damage and human casualties.
