Moldovan government strengthens independence, functional capacities of National Centre on Personal Data Protection

Chisinau, 13 October /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a 12 October meeting, approved a package of laws for optimizing the work of the National Centre on Personal Data Protection. The documents enhance the level of protection of personal data in Moldova and are meant to ensure the carrying out of the commitments assumed by Moldova, in the context of integration into the European Union, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The concerned laws are aimed at turning more efficient the work of the Centre and at ensuring the latter’s institutional independence. At the same time, the limit number of staff of the institution has been increased and the employees’ powers have been extended.
At the same time, the package of laws is meant to boost the functional competences and operation capacities of the Centre. Thus, the authority will be able to promptly intervene to remove infringements committed by operators and will check the lawfulness of the operations of processing personal data, carried out through systems of recording data belonging to private people. This measure has not been regulated properly so far.
The package of laws is to be submitted to parliament for consideration.
