Over three million ballot papers to be printed for presidential polls due in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 3,131,227 copies of ballot papers will be printed for the presidential polls due on 30 October, under a decision by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
At a today’s meeting, CEC Secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae said the ballot papers would be submitted to the District Electoral Councils, which will distribute them to the polling stations. “According to the State Register of Voters, the number of citizens with right to vote is about 2.8 million persons, and 280,000 on the left bank of Dniester. At the same time, we have established such a number of ballot papers, taking into account also the citizens staying abroad, who are not exactly clear where will be on the election day. At the same time, 3,000 ballot papers will be distributed to each of the 30 polling stations opened for the citizens from the left bank of Dniester,” Agrigoroae said.
Also at the today’s meeting, CEC ruled to allow the citizens from abroad to vote at the presidential polls based on the passport with expired validity term, but which contains the personal identity number. “According to data by CRIS Registru, there are 409,791 citizens of Moldova with expired passports,” a CEC member, Iurie Ciocan, said.
The Commission has earlier established the opening of about 2,000 polling stations in Moldova for the presidential elections due on 30 October. At the same time, at a proposal by the government, CEC instructed the organization of 100 polling stations for the Moldovan citizens from abroad.
