Events on city's dedication day start in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s capital today marks the 580th anniversary of its foundation and a religious holiday, Protecting Veil of the Holy Mother of God.
Today morning, the Holy Liturgy, officiated by a group of priests led by Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Most Right Reverend Vladimir, took place at the Birth of God Cathedral.
A wonder-working icon in the honour of the Holy Virgin was brought to the Cathedral on the occasion of the holiday.
In his speech to Christians, given after the Liturgy, Most Right Reverend Vladimir said that he had brought the icon for the parishioners to pray to God for peace.
The holiday started on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) with a programme of songs and dances. A Staircase Falls is to be inaugurated in the Valea Morilor (Mills’ Valley) Park, where an artistic programme will be presented.
A jazz music recital will take place on the pedestrian street Eugen Doga, with participation of Moldovan singers. A concert of light and folk music will take place on PMAN today evening.
The Chisinau city hall spent 580,000 lei to organize the holiday show. This year, the authorities will not organize fireworks.
The dedicated day of Chisinau has been marked on 14 October starting from 2004.
