Moldovan electoral body considers financial reports by ten contenders

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has received an analyzed financial reports by ten electoral contenders in terms of incomes and expenses made in the first two weeks of the presidential electoral campaign.
At a today’s meeting, CEC secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae said the financial reports had been submitted by the following electoral competitors: Marian Lupu on behalf of the Democratic Party (PDM), Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party (PL), Iurie Leanca - European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM), Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA), Ina Popenco – Ravnopravie (Equality of Rights), Dumitru Ciubasenco – Our Party (PN), Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists (PSRM), Silvia Radu – independent candidate and Valeriu Ghiletchi – independent candidate.
“The candidate of the Right Party, Ana Gutu, has not submitted the financial report, on grounds that an account with the mention, Electoral Fund, had not been opened till 13 October. At the same time, the Commission applied sanctions in form of warning to independent candidate Maia Laguta, for reasons that she failed to inform CEC about and eventual opening of a banking account. Thus, Maia Laguta is to announce the Commission, in 24 hours, about the fact that she will not open an account and will not bear financial expenses in the electoral campaign or, if necessary, she should present a report on the incomes and spending from this campaign,” Agrigoroae said.
At the same time, CEC will demand that the State Fiscal Principal Inspectorate at the Finance Ministry checks the origin of the donations exceeding 75,000 lei, transferred to the accounts of the electoral contenders: Mihai Ghimpu, Iurie Leanca, Dumitru Ciubasenco and Silvia Radu.
According to the financial reports unveiled by CEC, PDM’s candidate Marian Lupu spend over 15 million lei in the first two weeks of the electoral campaign, Mihai Ghimpu (PL) – more than 2.5 million lei, Iurie Leanca (PPEM) – about three million lei, Andrei Nastase (PPDA) - zero lei, Ina Popenco (Ravnopravie) – about two million lei, Dumitru Ciubasenco – about 4.5 million lei; Maia Sandu (PAS) – about 90,000 lei, Igor Dodon (PSRM) – over two million lei, Silvia Radu (independent candidate) – about two million lei and Valeriu Ghiletchi (independent candidate) – about 20,000 lei.
Direct presidential elections will take place in Moldova on 30 October 2016.
