Nine Moldovans detained by National Anticorruption Centre's officers

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/- Three customs inspectors, four border policemen and two bus drivers were detained on 19 October by prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), within an operation carried out at Otaci customs checkpoint.
According to the CNA press service, they are suspected of extorting money from people crossing the border, the actions being described as passive corruption. Preliminary data of the investigation show that the defendants would have received various sums of money from drivers of buses and minibuses who were driving to Russia and to other international routes.
During searches, money was discovered in service booths. Searches were also held at the houses of defendants.
The nine persons have been detained for 72 hours. Operation is going on today, and the case is managed by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
