Romanian Army Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - Romania’s Embassy in Moldova today organized laying of flowers at the Chisinau-based Cemetery of Heroes, on the occasion of the Romanian Army Day, marked on 25 October.
Attending the event were Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita, Romanian defence attaché, colonel Dumitru Neacsu, the commander of the Moldovan National Army, brigade general Igor Cutie, the Presidential Orchestra and servicemen of the guard and protocol structure of Moldova’s Defence Ministry, participants in the war of Transnistria, teachers, pupils, etc.
A group of priests, led by Archbishop of Chisinau, Metropolitan of Bessarabia, Most Right Reverend Petru, officiated a religious ceremony.
In his speech, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita thanked all those present, who came to honour the memory of Romanian soldiers.
“There are over 200 places in Moldova, where Romanian soldiers fought and died. People of diverse nationalities were buried here, in this cemetery: Romanians, Germans, French, Czechs, Russians, Austrians, Poles, who sacrificed for their country. These people deserve having decent graves. These heroes deserve the gratitude of all of us,” Daniel Ionita said.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the commander of the National Army, brigade general Igor Cutie said that the day of 25 October was an important day for us, when we commemorate heroes of diverse nationalities, who died on the territory of Moldova in the first and second world wars.
The head of the committee for rescuing the Cemetery of Heroes from Chisinau, Boris Volosatii, said the organization he had been leading for more than ten years made sustained efforts to re-establish this cemetery, where over 3,000 servicemen of different nationalities had been buried.
The Romanian Army Day was established in 1959.
