Moldovan pupils, students to be able to vote at education place

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - The pupils and students matriculated in education institutions from the settlements where they have no official residential registration will be able to vote at the education place, under a draft on amendment of the Electoral Code, submitted by a group of MPs and approved by the cabinet today.

The draft’s provisions are aimed at simplifying the procedure of exercising the right to vote for pupils and students. Thus, under the regulations proposed, the pupils and students can vote at any polling station opened in the settlements where they study. They are obliged to present the proper documents, fill in and sign a declaration on their own responsibility on abstaining from multiple vote, the Justice Ministry says.   

In 2013, at an initiative by a group of lawmakers, the Electoral Code was amended to ensure the participation of the pupils and students in parliamentary polls, depending on the place where they are matriculated in the education institution. The students were able to vote in the settlements they study at the parliamentary elections from 30 November 2014.
