Moldova's National Army servicemen complete evacuation of 15 tons of wastes of pesticides

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/- The National Army servicemen have completed evacuation of the 15 tons of wastes of pesticides from Falesti district. On 1 November, the activities for evacuating and destroying pesticides will start at the warehouse in Bugeac village, Gagauz-Yeri.

According to Colonel Mariana Grama, the wastes were collected on 29 September – 26 October 2016 by an operational team of the National Army, made up of 7 servicemen, and the employees of the E.S. Field Services Veolia of the Great Britain. The pesticides have been collected from 10 settlements of Falesti district and are to be exported for destruction to Poland at SARPI Dabrowa Gornicza.

The collection and evacuation of pesticides from Moldovan districts are carried out within the NATO/PpP Project on destroying pesticides and dangerous chemicals in Moldova, financially supported by the government of Moldova and of Romania, Poland, Turkey, Italy, the Czech Republic, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria and Japan.

The project aims at evacuating and destroying 1,260 tons of pesticides from 15 district warehouses. So far, about 830 tons of pesticides have been evacuated and destroyed. The works on export, transporting and destroying pesticides are estimated at about 2.2 million euros. About 1.7 million euros had been accumulated so far.
