Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/- Independent candidate Valeriu Ghiletchi announced he would continue the election campaign for the 30 October presidential elections. He made the statement at a news briefing today.
Ghiletchi said the withdrawal of candidate of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu from the electoral race had created confusion among voters. “I remain a pro-European candidate, but I think it is very important not to give up our Christian values to the detriment of the EU integration. I asked candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu the definition of family in her vision, and if she is ready to give up the progressive-liberal doctrine she is promoting. Yet, she refused to answer. Therefore, I can say I am the only pro-European candidate promoting Christian values. Thus, I am determined to fight for the goals I have set,” Ghiletchi said.
Ghiletchi said he was ready to support Maia Sandu in the runoff, if both of them reach a common understanding in terms of fitting into the electoral program on moral and traditional values, such as family. “In this case I will be open for providing her every support and making an appeal to my electorate to vote her in the runoff. If she fails to do so, I will not be able to provide my support,” Ghiletchi said.
On 26 October, Marian Lupu announced he withdrew from election race in favor of the common candidate, and today the leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova, Iurie Leanca, is going to approach this issue.
Direct presidential elections will take place on 30 October.
