Furniture market of France potential for Moldova's producers

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ - The furniture market of France, with an overall value of about 9.34 billion euros, represents a potential market for producers from Moldova, said authors of a study carried out at a request by the Organisation for Investments Attraction and Export Promotion from Moldova (MIEPO). The survey was unveiled to native furniture producers.
According to MIEPO data, the study was worked out with the backing of the Project on Support for Implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) in Moldova and presents the characteristic features of the sector and the market trends, clients’ requirements for the furniture, quality and formation of prices for the specific goods investigated. Also, the survey analyzed procedures of export, necessary documentation, tariff and non-tariff barriers at the import of furniture.
France is one of the biggest importers of furniture worldwide, with a 4.9 per cent share. The principal categories of furniture, to which the French consumers are oriented, are tapestry articles, kitchen furniture, sofas, armchairs and benches.
According to the study, about 43 per cent of the French domestic consumption of furniture is provided from imports, which have a tendency of increase; 13 per cent of them account for imports from countries outside the European Union. In this respect, the furniture market of France is attractive and represents an opportunity to extend Moldovan exports to the EU countries.
The researchers studied preferences of consumers from France. In the context, the survey recommends producers from Moldova to orient themselves to the segment of modern furniture, with aged style elements.
In 2015, EU member countries imported furniture worth about 100 million dollars from Moldova, and the main consumers were Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and the Netherlands.
