Today - last day for electoral contenders to make electoral propaganda

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/- The Central Election Commission (CEC) announces that today is the last day for the electoral contenders to make electoral propaganda.
According to the CEC’s press service, the electoral propaganda is strictly prohibited on election day and the previous one. “On these days, it is not allowed holding or reflecting activities/materials related to electoral propaganda, nor candidates appear at TV and radio programs. Also, the electoral contenders cannot make transfers to or from account on electoral fund”, the quoted source said.
Continuing of election propaganda on the above-mentioned days represents administrative offense and is fined from 10 to 20 conventional units (200-400 lei), applied to private people and by 40 – 50 conventional units (800-1000 lei) – to electoral candidate.
Direct presidential elections will take place in Moldova on 30 October 2016. Nine candidates for the Moldovan president post remained in the electoral race: Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova, Dumitru Ciubasenco – Our Party, Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party, Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists, Silvia Radu – independent candidate, Maia Laguta – independent candidate, Ana Gutu – Right Party and Valeriu Ghiletchi – an independent candidate.
If none of them gather at least half of the votes, the runoff will take place in two weeks, when the citizens will elect between the two electoral contenders who will pick the highest number of votes in the first round.
